IIT Delhi celebrates 70th Republic Day

Indian Institute of Technology Delhi celebrated the 70th Republic Day with patriotic fervour and enthusiasm

Prof V Ramgopal Rao, Director, IIT Delhi hoisted the national flag on this occasion.

The NCC/NSS/ NSO students, Student & Staff Inter IIT Sports Contingent, Security Unit and Scouts & Guides of KV IIT Delhi took part in the parade.

Adressing the students, staff and their family members on this occasion, Prof. V Ramgopal Rao said, "This is an occasion to commemorate the values of our democracy & republic. This is an occasion to reaffirm our commitment to liberty, fraternity, and equality across our society. At IIT Delhi, this year is also special in the way that we are celebrating this Republic Day as an Institution of Eminence."

Prof Rao further said, "This Republic Day we also have a reason to celebrate in terms of our international programmes. We are giving joint degrees for the first time in the history of IIT Delhi with the University of Queensland. We are in the process of signing couple of other joint degree programmes with leading universities in the world. We have also started recruiting foreign faculties. We have announced 500 Ph.D. fellowships for foreign students. "

The Director added, "We have also taken up major academic restructuring at IIT Delhi. Not only the school of interdisciplinary research, but 2018 also saw the emergence of the School of Public Policy, Department of Design and Department of Material Science & Engineering. The Senate in its last meeting has also approved the Centre for Automotive Research and Tribology, that will come into existence in 2019. We are also in the process of starting a platform for harnessing deep technologies, what we call the Ph.D. incubators at IIT Delhi in the year 2019".

The Director also presented awards to the students & staff for their outstanding contribution in Sports, NCC, NSS, NSO; awarded NCC for being the best marching contingent, and the Head Boy & Head Girl School Captains of KV IIT Delhi.

The award ceremony was followed by the presentation of Group Song & Dance by the students of IIT Nursery School.

After that, the students of KV IIT Delhi presented a folk dance on patriotic theme.

On this occasion, differently-abled World Yoga Champion Shri Tejasvi Kumar Sharma was also present.
